A "scripted life" that doesn't align with our own goals (if we even know what we want) is a recipe for feeling uncertain for how to proceed. Societal norms can be so annoying! You are far from alone. I am a cisgender gay man who became a therapist to help others, as I found therapy to be helpful for me. I also have dealt with multiple challenges that while at first seemed defeating, have propelled me to want others to experience growth in their careers, relationships, and lives. Maybe your self-esteem could use a boost, or your sex drive is low as you work hard at work for that promotion. Perhaps you are in a relationship that is not quite as satisfying as you would like. We can discuss all of it! Oh! Anxiety! Anxiety certainly doesn't make for convenient interactions or the best work performance. It may seem at first that being a part of the gay community is daunting, but it comes with an enhanced ability to be introspective - since all our life we have had to be. This applies to not only the LGBTQIA+ community, but also to those of us who have been oppressed or marginalized in other ways. I work with psychodynamic/attachment theory lens and can incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy. This simply means I'm multi-faceted in my approach as one-size-does-not-fit-all. I don't simply sit back and reflect unless you want me to. I can brainstorm, offer strategies, and most importantly of all, we will work in a collaborative manner where I'll listen and ask questions.
